Tell us something about what you want AFLBS students to know of you and your goals.
I am very grateful to God for His work in my life and that He led me to saving faith in Christ when I was a junior in high school. The two years I spent at AFLBS after high school were truly a life-changing and growing time for me spiritually! It was here that I came to know God’s will for my life. The daily study in God’s Word and prayer and all the fellowship and service opportunities really impacted my life. I value all the education I have received, but I would have to say that the two years in Bible school were the most pivotal and had the greatest impact on my years since then. It truly helped prepare me to seek and experience God’s plan and will. That is our goal here, as our catalog says: “Preparing students for the abundant life!”
What are your goals for the Bible school?
My primary goal is that students would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, grow in their knowledge of Christ and His Word, and be challenged and equipped to make Jesus known to others. In II Timothy 2:2, Paul stated this challenge clearly to Timothy, “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” This is really the heart of what we seek to do by God’s grace here at AFLBS. We believe that prayer for ourselves and each person is foundational in this whole process. We are dependent on the Holy Spirit of God to work through His Word, conviction of sin, repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 16:8-11; Romans 10:17). God has given us all we need in His Word to “thoroughly equip us for every good work.” We are fully confident in God’s power to work through His Word. “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (II Timothy 3:16-17).
Why do students come to AFLBS?
Most come with a real hunger and thirst to grow in their faith and in their knowledge of God’s Word. Most also come with a real desire to experience the Christ-centered fellowship with others on campus. This is a very special part of the Bible school experience. Students make friends they will have for the rest of their lives. Some come from places where they have been alone or with few others in their school who knew or professed Jesus Christ as their Savior. Many have anticipated the time when they could come to AFLBS to have that fellowship that they only experienced previously at youth retreats, Bible camps and FLY Conventions.
What can the congregations do for AFLBS and what can AFLBS do for the congregations?
We appreciate the great prayer and financial support that individuals and congregations give to our schools. These gifts help to keep student costs about 20 percent lower than they would otherwise be, which helps more students attend. AFLBS appreciates and respects the autonomy of local congregations, and AFLBS exists to serve congregations as an extension of their ministry. AFLBS exists to further train men and women in God’s Word to be better servants in the Lord’s work in congregations. We seek to be faithful in Christ’s commission to make disciples of all the nations. Students at AFLBS are required to be involved in some way in a local congregation while they are here. Gospel teams are also available throughout the school year to come and share in music and other ministry with congregations. Teams are available during the summer months to assist with VBS, camps, conferences, evangelism, and music and other ministry. The choirs also travel and share with congregations each spring. Campus Days are held in the fall and spring each year for high school youths to come experience the classes and campus life for a weekend and prayerfully consider coming here following high school. Deans’ Luncheons are held nearly every month of the school year to provide others an opportunity also to sit in on a class or two in the Bible school and seminary, be a part of the campus chapel on Thursday and be our guest for lunch.
How can we pray for you and the Bible school?
As I prayed about the call to serve as dean, it was a bit overwhelming. But it is a great comfort to remember this is God’s work and we are dependent on the Holy Spirit to work through the Word in each heart and life.
+Pray for God’s strength and wisdom for me and all the staff here so that we would seek God’s will in all the decisions and ministry opportunities God gives us.
+Pray for faculty as they prepare and teach the students each day.
+Pray for the staff as they serve the Lord in their many responsibilities.
+Pray for the students to be attentive to the Lord working through the Word in their lives.
+Pray that all might know and do God’s will and for God’s guidance in all their relationships.
