2008 SCRAMBLE: $8000 was raised for student scholarships!

We praise God for this great support to students in financial need. Last August twenty-one students received scholarships from the funds raised through the golf scramble. Here are some of their testimonies of appreciation:

  • “God’s provision has become so real to me these last few months at AFLBS.  Free Lutheran pastors aren’t usually millionaires, at least my dad isn’t, and especially because there are quite a few mouths to feed and bodies to clothe and educations still to be funded in my home, my parents have left it up to me to pay my way through Bible school, and after that, college.  There was no way I could do it on my own – the only thing I really could do was give up my worries and fears, and let God take control of my new independence.
Within the first two weeks, the Lord provided me with the money to buy my own car and also gave me a job that was perfect for me.  Not only that, but he also has blessed me with unexpected financial gifts, including this golf scholarship.  God’s plans are immensely gracious and they always exceed my expectations.  Sometimes I tend to become a little stressed out and frazzled when I’m overwhelmed by something, especially when it comes to money.  When I’m stressed, school assignments and social activities and church involvement become a burden for me, and I lose sight of the powerful impact these things should make on my life because I’m too busy obsessing over whatever’s stressing me out.
I’m thankful that God knows me so well.  He knew that lifting the burden of finances off of my shoulders would keep my mind focused.  Finances are still an issue, but not as big as I expected.  God’s been guiding me through it, teaching me how to be responsible with my money and blessing me with more than I hoped.  He has taken the stress that could have resulted from my worrying about money, and has showered me with freedom to dive into His word, to get involved at church and to even spend time with friends at night and on weekends.  The Lord has drawn me so close to him these past few months.  My relationship with Him has grown richer and deeper because of the level of trust He has brought me into, He’s shown me that relying on Him is the best choice I could ever make.  Thank you so much for letting God use you to bless me; this gift really does mean so much to me.”
  • “Thank you for your generous gift of a scholarship to help me continue my studies here at AFLBS.  My time here has been a blessing to me.  I have grown a lot while I have been here.  I have matured and been changed by the things that I have experienced and learned.
I grew up as a missionary kid in Ecuador, and one of the challenges for me this year has been learning to be independent from my parents because they are still in Ecuador.  It has been a blessing to be with other Christians who have encouraged me and been good examples for me to follow.
I have also been struggling with living back here in the U.S. and learning to fit in.  God has been teaching me to depend on Him to meet all of my needs and to trust Him to guide me in the choices that I am making.
Thank you again for encouraging me with your gift.  May God bless you.”
  • “Thank you so much for the gift of money that I received for the fall semester.  I appreciate this gift greatly as it helps me in many ways to be able to be educated in the words of God.
The Bible school has been a blessing in many ways.  The greatest teaching God has put on my heart thus far at Bible school is the need to slow down!  We need to stop going as fast as the rest of the world and just truly meditate on what the Lord has been doing in each of our lives and realize what he is teaching us through everything we go through.”
“I gladly received this generous gift with an appreciative heart.  God has been teaching me many things at Bible school.  He has taught me a more refined aspect of discipline, a need for the word in my life, and also the acceptance that I am nothing.  Among these humility stands alone as the most difficult characteristic to learn.  Through all things I see that I need to give Him glory and surrender to Him.  He gives me everything, to Him be the glory and praise!  In your gift of money God has blessed me.  I realize the need I have for help to lift the burden of tuition.  Therefore, I thank you for this blessing, it is much appreciated.”
