Dear Friends of AFLBS,
We appreciate friends like you who care
about the ministry of AFLBS. God continues
work in the lives of our students through
the study His Word.
Highlights from January:
J-term Evangelism and Discipleship
class for Junior students was
taught by Pastor Jim Rasmussen, AFLC
Evangelism Director. Each Wednesday,
studets filled 15-passenger vans and
headed to the Mall of America to engage
people in the message of the gospel.
Students were taught the evangelism
method, "Share Jesus Without Fear."
AFLBS junior, Dennis Gothier, had the
opportunity to lead two young men to
the Lord during another outing to Ridgedale
Mall with Resident Head, Jarrod Hylden.
Dennis is now serving as our Urban Ministry
team leader.
AFLBS Night at the AFLC Pastor's
Conference highlighted appreciation
to congregations and pastors for the
support they have been to current and
former students. Carissa Quanbeck, a
junior from Cavalier, ND and David Niemela,
a senior from Cokato, MN shared the
about the influence their pastors, youth
workers, and congregation members had
on their decision to come to Bible school.
AFLBS Dean, Pastor Joel Rolf, challenged
pastors and congregations to pray (individually
and corporately) for AFLBS and future
students, promote AFLBS regularly in
congregations, and provide scholarship
funds as a way to encourage youth from
their congregations to attend Bible
school.
AFLBS Dorm Staff and MTI students
attended the AFLC Youth Worker's Retreat
at the ARC this past weekend. Students
and staff received encouragement and
training from AFLC President, Pastor
Elden Nelson, former FLY Committee President,
Daniel Keinenan, AFLBS alum, Seth Forness,
now a youth worker in Glyndon, MN, and
AFLC Youth Ministries Director, Jason
Holt. Topics included: methods of communicating
Scripture, integrating multiple teaching
styles, and effective care for teens
in our culture.
Find additional new items, prayer
requests, and latest videos below. Thank
you for your partnership!
In Christ,
Chad Friestad,
AFLBS Student Development Director

Missions Conference 2012
January 22nd-26th
The annual Missions Conference began
on Sunday, and will continue throughout
the week, with its last service
on Thursday evening. God has been
working mightily through Pastor
Todd Schierkolk, a missionary with
his family in Jerez, Zacatecas,
Mexico.
Centering around the theme from
Acts 1:8, "You shall be my witnesses,"
Pastor Schierkolk's messages have
impacted hearts. With his evident
passion for people, his compassion
for the broken and lost, and his
sincere love for Jesus Christ and
the Word of God--all qualities crafted
in him by the God he preaches--make
him an effective instrument for
the growth of God's kingdom. He's
spoken to us about being the witness
that God has already made them as
recipients of the personal grace
of Jesus; about seeing the value
of the individual and pursuing them
for Christ; and about believing
in the Jesus who gives life to the
dead. We look forward to how God
will keep working throughout the
week. Please keep Pastor Schierkolk
in your prayers as he shares from
the Scriptures, seeking to present
fully the Jesus found there.
We've have also been able to listen
to a couple other speakers, too,
representatives of such ministries
as World Mission Prayer League and
World Missions. It's been a blessing
to see where God is working throughout
the world--and how we, his people,
can be a part of it.

AFLBS
Seeks Partners for Intercessor Team
Will you pray with us?
We
are seeking individuals and families
who would share in this heart of prayer
and commit to praying for AFLBS on a
daily basis for the ongoing ministry
of our schools and the upcoming building
project. Would you consider partnering
with us in prayer? There is no
greater work to do, nor is there a work
in which more people can be involved.
This work is available to all, and one
for which all are needed. We are
completely dependent upon a sovereign
God, but a God who hears and answers
the prayers of His people. Given
the shortness of time and the length
of eternity, can we count on you to
pray for us and with us?

Join with Us in Prayer and Praise for
God's Work:
- Praise God with the
Erickson family! As of
yesterday, Jeremy's blasts (the
"botched cells" in his bloodstream)
are down to 5% -- they need to be
below 5% in order to proceed with
the transplant he needs. After receiving
the good word about his blasts,
he reported: "disease is
holding steady, the U wants one
more month of this milder chemo,
and then they'll take me for the
transplant." Praise the
Lord for what he's doing, and continue
to pray for him and his family as
they trust Jesus and hope for healing.
You can follow him on Facebook and
on his
blog.
God is good.
- Pray for the Missions
Conference going on this
week (through Thursday). Pray for
Pastor Todd Schierkolk as he preaches
the Word to the students of AFLBS.
God has been moving mightily already--pray
that He'll continue that and work
miracles in the hearts of students.
- Pray for the new semester
that started this week
for the Bible School and Seminary.
Ask the Lord to send new enthusiasm,
renewed perseverance, and growing
humility in the students as they
study the Word of God together.
- Pray for the MTI Students,
who will be leaving this
next week for their youth ministry
internships with various congregations.
Steve Jenson will continue serving
Hope Free Lutheran Church in Minneapolis,
MN as he has been throughout the
year. Seth Knutson will be working
in ministry in Tucson, AZ, with
Abiding Savior Lutheran Church;
Brandon Fouks, at Christian Free
Lutheran in Wheatland, IA; Shane
Remington at Calvary Free Lutheran
in Fergus Falls, MN; and Gabe Neufeld
in Zumbrota, MN, with Our Saviour's
Lutheran Church.
- Pray for AFLBS and AFLC
Home Missions as they begin
reviewing and praying over applications
for the summer ministry teams that
will go out to serve the churches
around the country with their music
and ministry. Your prayers are an
integral part of the selection process--thank
you for asking the Lord for wisdom
and discernment on behalf of the
leaders who will be putting teams
together.
- Please lift up the new
initiatives in the AFLC: the AFLBS
Scholarship 400 and the AFLC Intercessor
Team. Pray that God would
prosper these visions for growth
and life in our schools. Pray that
God will continue to build support
as he has been doing already in
the last couple of weeks (Praise
the Lord!).
