Bierles to join AFLBS staff as Resident Heads
FOR RELEASE 4 PM CST, MONDAY, APRIL 24, 2017
AFLBS is excited to announce the call of Brad and Sarah Bierle, to serve as Men’s and Women’s Resident Heads, starting August 1, 2017. The husband and wife team will serve the student body, overseeing the discipleship ministry and organization of both the men’s and women’s residence halls.
“God has given Brad and Sarah gifts in the areas of discipleship, leadership, and hospitality,” says AFLBS Dean, Joel Rolf, “They are looking forward to serving students and ministering with other staff on campus.”
The Bierles bring a variety of ministry experiences to these positions, including home educating their three children and serving as youth leaders, mentors, adult Sunday school teachers and small group facilitators at their home church, Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Most recently they have served as missionaries in Ecuador, serving in the spiritual life and formation area of a K-12 international Christian school in Quito.
“This exposure to a multi-cultural educational environment has re-inspired and motivated us to pursue a new opportunity at AFLBS where we hope to share and use our lives, gifts, and experiences in fresh ways for God’s purposes and glory,” explain the Bierles.
What the Bierles are most looking forward to about serving at AFLBS is to be immersed in a place that values and prioritizes the Word of God as central to life and community. “To be surrounded by students who are forming their worldviews, experiencing increased independence, and wrestling with life’s most important questions will be both a privilege and a daunting task,” they say.
The Bierles are excited about the opportunities of discipleship they will have with the student body.
“We look forward to being guides, sounding boards, trusted friends and advisers, as well as supportive and encouraging authority figures as we walk alongside these young people during a crucial and formative time in their lives,” explain Brad and Sarah. “We envision a ‘big family’ concept of student life at AFLBS. We desire to build and contribute to a community marked by hospitality, accountability, and genuine love and concern for the interest of others within a fun and supportive home environment.”
Brad and Sarah have three teen children, Joshua (19), lives in Sioux Falls, SD; Jacob (16), will begin his first-year at AFLBS this coming fall; and Tessa (14).
AFLBS has been blessed by the ministry of current Resident Heads, Liz McCarlson and Matthew Quanbeck. “We are grateful for the faithful ministry of Liz and Matthew, who have served in dorm ministry for the past eight and three years respectively,” says Pastor Joel Rolf.
